Royce Chocolates Now Available in the Philippines

Chocolate lovers rejoice! Chocolates from the Japan-based Royce’ Confect Co., Ltd., also known as E-Royce’, is now available in the Philippines. The production of chocolates from Royce’ are covered in so much secrecy and strict quality standards that it was once impossible to grab hold of them outside of Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture. Not that they really would like to shroud it in mystery, but bulk of the chocolates are made of so much cocoa butter, transporting it from one area to another requires a lot of measures to make sure they don’t melt. Well, Royce is in the Philippines now and can be bought in the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell, Makati.

I first got a taste of these chocolates half a decade ago from a friend who traveled to Japan and remember them to be really really great. I got another box of Royce’ Nama Champagne Chocolates this Christmas. And because I have low self-control when it comes to sweets, I peeled through layers and layers of packaging (an aluminum bag, a paper wrapper, a box, plastic and the plastic container itself), ate it and I am just dying to grab myself some more.

What makes Royce’ extra special is how it plays with textures on your tongue. The Nama chocolates I’ve eaten are covered in cocoa powder and initially caress the tongue in a delicately coarse manner. Once the cocoa has melted, a burst of silky and creamy cocoa butter explodes with it, and here is when the experience of eating the Nama chocolate becomes a delightfully blissful experience.

The butter ushers in an assortment of delicate flavors. First is the double faceted sweetness coming from the cocoa and sugar. Second, the textured bitterness coming from the cocoa and the champagne. Then there’s a hint of tangy and opiate fruits that unravels after before a light dose of salt. And before you know it, you are reminded of a lot of things: the texture of velvet; the aroma of a warm breakfast punctuated by caffeine in winter; the sensation of your palate breathing; the quietly seductive euphoria of feeling your body tingle through your taste buds .

Royce’ Nama chocolates are sold in the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell, Makati for P580, almost twice the price if you were to grab them at the airports of Narita and Haneda in Japan.

My goodness, these look amazing - there is such an understated elegance about them. And your description of their taste makes them even more tempting. I have no idea if they are available anywhere near me, but I will surely keep an eye out. Gorgeous.

Hi Tara, where are you from? I was told Royce is available in every major airport terminal these days. If you're traveling, be on the prowl. Or maybe you can ask someone who's traveling to grab you a box. Or two. Or three. Or four. Or more :)

Hi Gals and Guys,
